No２ジャイカ・オフィス（２１階）からレティーロ駅（Retiro）を見おろす。遠くは大河ラプラタ川、そのはるかかなたはウルグアイである。Estacion Retiroレティーロ駅(Retiro Station)は列車の中央駅であり、その向こうにバスターミナルがある。なおRetiroとはRetire（休養の場所）を意味し、この辺りは修道院として昔使われ、その後奴隷市場、軍隊用の土地としても用いられてきた。アルゼンチンの中心的な駅の建物の丸天井は古く赤さびている（写真でもよくわかる）。11.11.2005

The railway station is the Cetral Station of Argentina with the Bus Terminal adjacent. Retiro means “retire”, the area being used as monastry, slave market or military camp. The roof (vault) of the Retiro station remains rusted red.

鉄道は１９世紀に英国によって建設されパンパの農作物や畜産品を運ぶのに用いられてきた。２０世紀半ばにペロン大統領によって国有化され、それ以来修理の行き届かないことが多い。そういう荒廃は民営化後も国の各地に見られる。The railway was established by England in the 19th century and used extensively to convey agricultural and dairy products of the pampa to Buenos Aires. It was nationalized by President Peron in the mid-20th century, and is now left unrepaired. Such ruins are seen in many parts of the country even after the privatization.
